Abstract: The results of full-scale tests to determine the efficiency of an octadecylamine–benzotriazole mixture in the chamber protection of metals in the tropics are presented. It is shown that chamber treatment of metals by this inhibitor followed by packing of the treated samples in polyethylene bags ensures: i, total protection of copper, brass and galvanized steel in humid, seaside and seaside tropical climates for a period of up to 9 months; ii, full protection of steel in humid and tropical seaside climates for a period up to 9 months and in tropical seaside climate for a period up to 3 months.

Keywords: atmospheric corrosion, vapor phase corrosion inhibitors, chamber corrosion inhibitors, tropical climate, in situ corrosion tests
