On the effect of surfactants in the composition of the corrosion inhibitor for concrete reinforcement IFKhAN-78 during prolonged full immersion in 3% NaCl solution. Monitoring based on EIS results

Abstract: In addition to previously published data on the corrosion resistance of reinforced concrete, the results of electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) measurements of samples with two modifications of the IFKhAN-78 inhibitor are presented: a migrating modification that includes surfactants, and its contact analogue without them. These measurements were performed regularly during 4-month exposure in 3% NaCl solution with the concrete samples completely immersed in the electrolyte. The results showed a significant difference in the impedance spectra between the concretes treated with these two inhibitors. It was shown that the presence of the surfactant in the inhibitor leads to a significant decrease in the resistance of the concrete layer and the surface oxide-hydroxide layer on the steel surface. During the initial period, while the steel remains passive, an adsorption capacity appears in the equivalent circuit in the presence of the surfactant, which disappears after the onset of intensive corrosion. The concrete treated with the contact inhibitor without surfactants remained passive throughout the test period, and its behavior in the low-frequency region is adequately described by CPE element of capacitive nature.
