The various functional groups of the CIF was confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) analysis. Weight loss method reveals that 10 mL of an aqueous extract (12% solution) of CIF offers a maximum corrosion inhibition efficiency of 93%. Electrochemical methods such as potentiodynamic polarization study and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy were used to study the mechanistic aspects of corrosion inhibition. The Hardness of a metal before and after immersion has been determined. The surface morphology was examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). The results show that the aqueous extract of CIF acts as a corrosion inhibitor.
