PS dispersions added with C20A and/or CeO2 of varying concentrations were prepared and applied on metal coupons. The cured coatings were characterized by contact angle measurement, immersion test, cross-hatch adhesion test, thermogravimetric analysis, and scanning electron microscopy. Experimental runs were compared against a commercial epoxy primer as a control. Anticorrosion PS-based coatings were successfully prepared via solution-casting and the optimal concentration of PS in limonene is 9 wt%. Results of the different characterization methods of the coating revealed that the PS with 5% w/w C20A stood out with excellent anti-corrosion and adhesion properties and thermal stability among the coating treatments despite reduced hydrophobicity compared to the pure PS coating. With a corrosion rate and corrosion inhibition efficiency of 0.023263 mm·y–1 and 65.88%, respectively, 5% w/w C20A performed remarkably better among other treatments as well as against the commercial epoxy. The blending of 5% w/w C20A resulted in the reinforced barrier properties of the PS coating which could be explained by the successful dispersion of the C20A nanoparticles as confirmed in its SEM micrograph.
