Frumkin Institute of Physical Chemistry and Electrochemistry, Russian Academy of Sciences, 31-4, Leninsky prospect, 119071 Moscow, RussiaAbstract: Based on the databases of international (MICAT, UNECE) and Russian (RF) programs, the applicability of mathematical models (dose-response functions, DRF) for the estimation of first-year corrosion losses of typical metals (carbon steel, zinc, copper, and aluminum) and, consequently, for the prediction of the categories of atmospheric corrosivity of test locations with respect to each metal has been demonstrated. A rationale has been provided for the significant discrepancy between the predicted and experimental first-year losses of metals in the CX corrosivity category. The necessity of accurate determination of aerochemical parameters in atmospheres with low corrosivity has been demonstrated.
