Abstract: Enhancing the atmospheric corrosion resistance of steel with thermodiffusion zinc coatings is an important scientific and engineering problem. A promising approach to addressing this challenge is the use of chamber corrosion inhibitors. The development of chamber inhibitors for steel with thermodiffusion coatings should be based on the results of evaluating the protective properties of compounds carried out separately for zinc and steel. In this study, the protective properties of 2-ethylhexanoic acid, its mixture with urotropine, and vinyltrimethoxysilane were compared for individual metals (zinc and steel) and for the steel with a thermodiffusion zinc coating using corrosion and electrochemical methods. The chamber inhibitors under study slowed down the corrosion of both zinc and steel by stabilizing their passive state and, in the case of zinc, by inhibiting the active dissolution. The protective action occurs through a blocking mechanism. It has been demonstrated that compounds and chamber treatment conditions are effective for both individual metals are also for the steel with a thermodiffusion zinc coating. The corrosion protective properties of vinyltrimethoxysilane adsorption films were found to improve after exposure of the metals to water vapor after the chamber treatment. This combined treatment provides effective corrosion protection for the steel with the thermodiffusion zinc coating.
