Abstract: Superhydrophobic (SHP) coatings provide a promising and effective method for the protection of metal and alloys. However, the low stability of the SHP layers in aqueous solutions limits their practical application. Corrosion inhibitors (CIs) are used not only as a separate method of protection, but also to improve the corrosion properties of paint and conversion coatings on the aluminum alloys. The paper considers a combined method of protection of aluminum alloys (AA 2024, 6063 and 5754) in aqueous chloride solutions (0.05 and 0.5 M NaCl). It consists in increasing the stability and preserving the SHP properties of coatings by small CIs additions. The influence of some CIs (sodium oleate and sodium nitrite and rare-earth metal salts (Ce and Y)) on the electrochemical behavior of the AA 2024 alloy in 0.05 M NaCl solution was studied. The screening of the most effective CIs was carried out; and their influence on the stability of SHP layers on the aluminum surfaces in NaCl solutions was established.
