JOSE MARIA BASTIDAS (https://orcid.org/0000-0001-9616-0778) is a Professor Ad Honorem at the National Center for Metallurgical Research (CENIM) belonging to the CSIC (Spanish Research Council), Madrid, Spain. He lectured in physics at the UPM (Polytechnic University of Madrid). He was a Postdoctoral Ramsay Memorial Fellowships Trust at the Corrosion and Protection Center at the University of Manchester, UK. He has been involved as leader in the development of more than 60 research projects in the corrosion-protection field. He has authored or co-authored more than 450 original peer-reviewed journal articles (including book chapters and communications presented in congresses). He has supervised more than 35 PhD Thesis and MSc Degrees. He holds several patents. Prof. Bastidas received the Frank Newman Speller Award (2021) from NACE International (National Association of Corrosion Engineers), currently AMPP (Associations for Materials Protection and Performance) USA, given in recognition of outstanding contributions to corrosion engineering. He was nominated to the Award Mexico of Science and Technology (2016), and received the award International Distinguished Career (2011) for outstanding international contributions in the field of corrosion science and technology from NACE International and from the Central Mexico Section of NACE International. Winner of a project 2005 financed by the ICA (International Copper Association) USA, on new applications of copper, and International winner 1990 from FSCT (Federation of Societies for Coatings Technology) USA, in recognition to the best corrosion- related article published in the Journal of Coatings Technology, on mechanism of cathodic protection of zinc-rich paints by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. He is invited Professor at the UABC (Autonomous University of Baja California), Mexico, from 2006, with short duration visits every year. He was research fellow at the ULisboa (Universidade de Lisboa), Portugal; the WU (Universität Wien), Austria; and the UPMC (Sorbonne Université Campus Pierre et Marie Curie) Paris, France. He is Editor of Materials; Frontiers in Materials; International Journal of Corrosion; and Journal of Modern Polymer Chemistry and Materials; and is member of the Editorial Board of Corrosion and Materials Degradation; Advances in Chemical Engineering and Science; Construction Technologies and Architecture; and Revista Iberoamericana de Corrosion and Protection.
